Win at Last for ODWCC
Skipper McArdle was missing for this one, so it was Pete Smith that picked which end Billy should bowl from . Luckily that was the only mistake he made. Billy struggled with his line and length on a pitch with short boundaries on one side of the wicket, meanwhile at the other end Pete Taplin was being miserly and also bowling the occasional dangerous ball. Pete T picked up a couple of wickets, one with a beauty that came in at least 6 inches to knock out the off stump. Vishnu also had success from Pete's end when he replaced him and OD's were gradually getting on top. At the drinks break it looked as if we could knock Shoreham over for under 100, whilst jason who had beeen standing at slip was warning that anything over 130 might be difficult to get. A few anoyning stands at the end of the Shoreham's innings meant they did get to 130 despite some more wickets from Varun, but we felt we had fielded well and caught some good catches so we were confident going into bat.
Pete and Clive opened up, with Clive hitting 10 in the first over- surely the first time this has ever happened ! Pete also hit some lusty blows including a four that he timed very well with the edge of his bat. Varun increased the pace with two fours from his first 2 deliveries . Varun continued to bat fluently and with able support from Clive and Neil , he steered us through to a comfortable victory with about 10 overs to spare.
