Match Report
17/06/2012 v Frindsbury CC

Yep it’s true.
With 4 ducks a 1, a 5 and an 8 from our first 7 batsman it was a fantastic failure. It was a wet pitch and maybe we struggled with the low and slow bounce or maybe we were just being useless. We started asking John what the clubs lowest score was wondering if we were going to completely embarrass ourselves.
From the sky, like an angel, or perhaps a bird dropping, down came Denman to salvage some pride. With an excellent 29 not out, supported by Billy Merrall’s 13 and Matt’s 12 we managed to accrue a not completely embarrassing 75. Due to the innings finishing a lot earlier than planned, we turned around straight away and headed out to field (not Sam Field, we haven’t seen him at all this year).
Jason gave the team a talk and told us that it was still possible that we could win this. I agreed it was possible but I had never dreamed the dream.
Some excellent bowling all round. Pete today opened the batting and the bowling. After being run out by Clive (I’m not apportioning blame, I didn’t see it) Pete needed to impact on the game and took 4 wickets putting us in a very strong position. Grant Merrall following his son into the team following Montrose’s folding will be the addition of the year. He had a cracking spell deserving of more than the two wickets he took. Two wickets from Denman (who walks away with the man of the match award just ahead of Pete) and Jason with one wicket and a run out (Shaun) completed the rout for only about 52 runs. In the end, a seemingly comfortable win.
Pete likes a bet and is currently ruing not putting a bet on with Paddy Power when we were 16/7. I don’t think we saw a win coming from that position but of course we were extremely pleased to take it. :o)
Cheers Tim
(Ed note- I think this is the second lowest first innings winning total. In 1965 we scored 56 and bowled out a School XI for 31)
