26/08/2010 v Ashburnham Arms
Drawn
The game was a slightly altered format with 12 overs of 8 balls each being decided on to speed things along. With batsman being retired on 20 Sam and Tim Mc opened and fired into the quickened format with relish. Sam was back in the hutch with his quota in style first quickly followed by Tim who in his customary manner slogged his way around the park giving loads of catching chances but clearly had more lives than a cat in a wheeliebin. Max and Adam followed on from them and both raced (yes this is the Adam you all know) to their 20's with seeming ease.
Colin and myself (Pete Smith) were next in and it was a real blast from the past to partnered up with my old tail end mucker and much merriment was caused by some dodgy calling (me) and much laboured running of twos (both of us) but it was terrific fun and Colin unfortunately found himself the only victim of the Ashburnham attack when he unluckily got an inside edge which skittled his leg stump. Billy followed up for the final over and took to it in the same vein and scored some very quick late runs which found us after our batting stint on 120 odd and even more remarkably - still dry!!!
On the turn around Max and Billy opened our bowling and as they have been on numerous occasions this season were the stars with the ball, Billy especially found a perfect length which the Ashburnham batsmen really struggled to cope with. Rich Sam and myself all bowled taking a few wickets between us and the climax was the most comical of dismissals when a straight drive (from the only Ashburnham bat to score 20 and had returned at the end) was sent Richards way at some pace and with an outstretched arm he (skillfully????) managed to deflect the ball onto the stumps and left the oppos non striking batsmen utterly dumfounded and completely stranded.
As soon as we finished the heavens opened as they had been threatening to but it couldnt dampen any of the craic and the fantastic barbecue waiting for us back at the Ashburnham Arms. I'm sure everyone will agree that it was great fun.
