Match Report

06/07/2000 v St Michaels

Won

This was a hugely successful game, both socially and financially. It was also good to see 3 lads from the school playing.

The reporter from the New Shopper turned up early, and this meant that Gavin had to open the batting so that the photographer could get an action picture before he went home. With Steve Lawton keeping wicket, he once again managed to get his face in the paper- lets hope his mum recognizes him this year. Gavin fared better with the bat than last year and hit a number of fours before being run out. Clive, playing for Gavin’s team was the only other batsmen to make an impression with 37 not out. Clive was in great form also with his running between the wickets, sending back three partners who weren’t quite quick enough to keep up. (who is….)

Gavins team managed 86 from the 15 overs in the innings , giving those who had chosen 173-176 in the guess the number of runs competion plenty of hope. Old Dartechs reversed the batting record and Bob Dunkley accompanied Jonathan to the wicket. Neither changed the way they batted however with Jonathan playing for a draw from the outset, and Bob trying to break a few windows in the pavilion. They didn’t last long, and were replaced with randy and Neil. Neil was well caught by Gavin in the covers, but Randy hit a number of legside fours on the way to 21 not out. Martin and Neil also contributed, and despite some varied bowling actually Old Dartechs reached the total with one over to spare.

There was a good crowd, and. the cricket development officer for Kent, David Sear, put in an appearance to watch the local cub pack played a game of Kwik Cricket.

In all over £700 was for the two charities involved, ICR and the Ellenor foundation. The total of runs in the match was 173, and there are two winners so far- both have claimed it wont change their lifestyle- but we all know it will…

Thanks go to Lesley and Lynn for doing the refreshments, and to Nigel Keen, Steve Lawton, Bob Dunkley , Jenny Heathfield and Alec Sanderson who were kind enough to sponsor the event. The bottle of Champagne donated by the Chairman was presented to Derek Maidment- one of the three umpires, for skillfully preventing overthrows from his
