Match Report
09/06/2019 v BEXLEY HOSP
lost
*AMENDED* Sunday saw our home and away fixture against Bexley Park. A game that is always quite difficult due to their dominance over the years and a pitch that is somewhat unpredictable. PT lost the toss and we were sent to bowl first, although most celebrated with the prospect of a lengthier tea to come. Niraj (1-20) and Jack (0-36) opened the bowling and kept things tight and found a few demons in the suspect pitch, but some questionable umpiring and dropped catches saw off the 1st 14 overs with just 1 wicket down. This allowed their middle order to score with a little more freedom and aggression but some tidy, wily bowling from Tim L (0-32) Peg (2-57) and *TONY* (0-30) as well as a couple of fantastic catches from *him!* kept the Bexley Park boys in check. Special mention to Michael, on debut, who managed to run their number 3 batsman out much to his disgust! So, 209 was the target in 35 overs. In all honesty, probably 30 too many but we had a solid top order that would give it a good go. Adam (54 n.o) opened up with Skipper PT (20), and they started steadily, picking off the 1’s and 2’s but boundaries were at a premium (0!!). Peg (60) joined Adam after Pete fell, and kept the scoreboard ticking over but it became apparent their extra slow bowling was proving very difficult to get away to the boundary and the run rate rose to above 10 an over. Both Adam and Peg got to 50 before we fell 46 short of the hefty target. Next week see’s us at home again against Greenheath.
