Match Report
25/08/2002 v BEXLEY HOSP
lost
Adam "run machine" Deal and Clive opened up, and made good progress . Bob Dunkley umpired at both ends to ward against dubious umpiring descions. Unfrtunately Bob went off after about 15 overs.
After having put on 60 Clive was out LBW to trigger Pete, and Neil quickly followed to a ball that kept low. This was unfortunate, because the bowling was not difficult and there were some easy runs to be had. Tim Mcardel didn’t last long- nor his mate mark. Colin Deal stayed longest which lead to some interesting conversations regarding the calling of runs with his brother. I bet they fought over everything when they were younger !
When Adam left, after a very well crafted innings, it looked as if we would fall short of the century, however Bob played one of his best innings for years, mixing trade mark swiprees to mid wicket, with clever "bunts" for singles.
115 gave us some hope after the delicous samosa's. (What happened to those spring rolls though !)
Neil Priddy got Neil Fisher out cheaply when he under edged a cut to a delighted Colin Deal.
Bob soon removed one of Bexley's youngsters, and Neil then got a third. Neil's line and length deserted him, and Colin struggled to prevent the byes mounting up.
Adam fared no better and hoisted the white flag after going for 21 in his one and only over. Pete Smith bravely volunteered to bowl, after not having a good day with the bat (his first golden) He didn’t do too badly, but by this time the game had got away from us, a steepling catch to Adam Deal at long off that was splilled, being the last chance to make further inroads.
