24/07/2001 v CHAIRMANS XI

lost

A fine turn out for this charity game, though it was a shame that the Chairman had a minor operation which prevented him from donning those famous whites.

The late arrivl of regular opener Tony Day meant that Andrew was pressed into service as Clives partner. In his haste he forgot to put on a box, which was a severe mistake bearing in mind the hostile reception given to hm by Jason Allen on a very fast and bouncy Wilmington pitch. He didn’t last many balls after his own were re-arranged by an inducker from Allen. I don’t think Andrew was too impressed, and after a short recuperattion period was not seen again for several weeks!

Clive had a few difficulties against Grant Merril but should have cashed in against the short pitched bowling of Tony Porter, however he was caught by Paul Allen fielding at long leg.

Neil and Chris Beard then played some fine attacking Cricket and advanced the score to over a hundred. The innings stalled somewhat when these two were out and the eventual score of 140 from 30 overs was definitely below par.

Ina Steene and Tony day opened the bowling against Merrill and Mills . Russell had brought back fond memories with his fielding display, but didn’t amange much with the bat. Sean though for once lived up to his own "billing", and scored some very quick runs. Merrill and Paul Allen also scored well and Old Dartechs had no way of slowing the scoring. Paul and Grant were eventually out, but it was too late and Old dartechs had lost to (In Jocks own words- ) a bunch of T******* who hadnt played for 20 years. A bit harsh this, but it was a depressing loss never the less. Still, the food was good, thanks Sally, and a lot of money was raised for Bexley Deaf, the Air ambulance and Ellenor Hospice
