Match Report

24/06/2001 v Irving

Drawn

Martin, standing in for Richard, performed the most imortant task on this scorching hot day by winning the toss. Tony and Clive opened on a fast bouncy pitch.

Tony soon took advantage of the fast outfield by plundering 2 fours in the second over. However bowling at the other end was more testing as the ball was movng away from the bat, and there were a few balls keeping low. Clive misjudged a swinging ball on the leg side, and for the second match running was bowled off the outside edge of his bat. Tony kept scoring quickly, and Chris Beard, coming in at three also took full advantage of bad balls. Tony went the same way as Clive, and Jock was soon to follow, both balls keeping low. Steve Lawton and Neil Priddy gave good support to Chris as he powered to 40 with 8 boundaries. Progress to his half century was slower, and the Old Dartechs innings stalled somewhat when a score of 200 looked on. Jason did his best to hurry the scoring along, but the bowling became tighter and the bounce more erratic. Mark and Pete went cheaply, but Jason scored 33. Martin was again playing for his averages and was not out. In this form, perhaps he should have gone in earlier.

Old Dartechs managed 186 before marching off eagerly to devour the mountains of sausage rolls - (big ones, small ones, homemade, Safeway Savers- some frankly just a bit burnt)

Jason bowled agressively and Tony gave good support, as Irving collapsed to 72 for six. Neil taking three of the wickets with some controlled seamers. Martin brought himself on and generally used his bowlers imaginatively in an effort to get the last wickets. Fielding was enthusiastic despite the heat. Steve Lawton dropped a sitter, however and there was not enough time to bowl Irving out. Indeed they got quite close to winning. Old Dartechs probably deserved to win this one, and certainly played competitively.
