lost

OD's first match on tour

Our first game on the saturday saw us travel south of the island to the village of Ventnor and for those lucky enough to be selected it was generally considered that not many of us will ever play at a more picturesque and well appointed club. It warranted a good game and that was served up in spades. Ace and Peg started us off and ticked along nicely for a decent opening when the Ace was the first to succomb Sam took over and with Peg soon back in the hutch Tim Mc carried on his good form and both soon achieved 50's and gave us a solid bedrock toward a very respectable 209. On the turn around things couldnt have gone any better and within a few overs Charlie had caused all sorts of mayhem at one end and James D backed him up at the other and we had a shell shocked Ventnor at around 50 for 5 however the fightback came as we suspected it might and the 6th wicket partnership was a corker and before long they were more than back in the game and we were staring down the barrel - we finally got the no3 who fell just short of his ton on 97 which was all the more remarkable as it was his first ever 50. This was followed by a couple of quick wickets but the damage had been done and with Ventnor only requiring around 3 an over for the last 5 overs the match swung back to them and they duly got the win with an over to spare. Pick of the bowling had to be Charlie who destroyed the upper order and finished with 4 wickets It was a real shame that we didnt kill that particular game off but all credit had to be handed to the lads at Ventnor who never gave up.
